About Me
My name is Kim and I am a mom of 2 young kids. My oldest is 5 years old and around the time he was 3 we started down the path of getting him evaluated for selective mutism. I struggle with social anxiety and was able to identify some of my anxiety traits in my son from a young age.
I am by no means an expert on selective mutism. I am just a mom with a full time corporate job who found it difficult to find resources and stories on selective mutism as I’ve been navigating this journey with my son.

The Journey
As a mother navigating the extra challenges of parenting a child with selective mutism, I have learned the importance of patience, understanding, and advocacy. My journey has been filled with ups and downs, but my hope in sharing these experiences is that it will help others and connect with those dealing with a similar journey.
Key Insights from My Journey
- Selective mutism is often misunderstood, leading to feelings of isolation for both the child and the parent.
- Building a supportive community is crucial for advocating for a kid’s needs.
- Every child is unique; what works for one may not work for another, so flexibility is key.
Through this blog, I aim to share my family’s story and experiences in case it is helpful for someone else on this journey. I believe that by sharing our stories, we can foster a sense of community and support.
I invite you to join me in this conversation, as we explore the nuances of parenting a child with selective mutism and celebrate the small victories.
